Questions to Ask Before You Go

If you are travelling to a new location to set up an office, you should try to gather the information on this attached list:  

Local Security Information

To get this information, meet with knowledgeable organizations already in the field location.  Consider meeting with:

1. Local non-profits
2. Church officials
3. Other INGOs
4. NGO associations or coordination bodies
5. UN agencies
6. Government agencies

Also consider checking with private security firms, if there are any in the area.  Often these firms have the least relevant information for our work, and, in some contexts it can be dangerous to associate with them.  However, they are sometimes an important resource.
