Rope – Specifications

Rope is often included in shelter kits depending on the local practices and other materials available. A typical length in a single-family emergency kit is often 10 m. Rope is commonly sold in large roles and it should be understood that cutting rope to length for inclusion into the shelter kit is time consuming and labor intensive.

Rope should be long-lasting woven plastic, nylon or polypropylene material and should be 6-12 mm in diameter. Natural fiber ropes are not as strong nor as durable. Nylon will be the most expensive. The following specs are given for polypropylene rope.

Procurement location:  Local procurement will be possible in most locations. Only procure at the region when unavailable locally.
