Sleeping Tents

The type of tent used for staff accommodation should be chosen with expected use in mind – if it is anticipated that staff will only be using tents for sleeping (i.e, there are other locations for work, eating, etc.) small single compartment tents may be adequate. When more time than sleeping will be spent in the tent, larger, multi-room tents should be considered. Some models offer central common compartments with separate, side sleeping compartments.

Three-season tents can be adequate for many environments – however, if high winds of snowfall is expected, consider four-season tents, designed to withstand harsher conditions.

Tents should be polyester construction. In wet climates, heavy waterproofing of the polyester will be necessary – however it should be noted that this will also reduce breathability. Mesh panels will allow more breathability but less protection against insects.

A full rain fly should cover the entire tent, water-proofed with polyurethane. Floor should be sturdy material, nylon or polyester. An additional “footprint” should be considered if tents will be used outside in rough terrain.

Ensure that seems are water sealed or purchase after-market sealant with tents.
